Stableford is designed to level the playing field by awarding points based on the number of strokes taken at each hole, adjusted for the player's handicap. This system rewards players for good performance on each hole, rather than just counting total strokes, and can help balance the competition across different skill levels.
In the Stableford system, points are awarded as follows:
Double Bogey or Worse: 0 points
Bogey: 1 point
Par: 2 points
Birdie: 3 points
Eagle: 4 points
Albatross: 5 points
Scoring Example for a Hole:
Gross Score: Player A scores a 5 (bogey), Player B scores a 6 (double bogey).
Adjusted Net Score:
Player A (Handicap 3): Net score remains 5.
Player B (Handicap 10): Net score is 6 - 1 (adjusted by handicap) = 5.
Stableford Points:
Both players score a net bogey, so they each receive 1 point for the hole.
Advantages of Stableford:
Encourages Aggressive Play: Players are rewarded for scoring well on individual holes.
Reduces Impact of Bad Holes: A bad score on a single hole doesn’t ruin the entire round.
Fair Across Skill Levels: Adjusted scoring levels the playing field for high and low handicappers.
-
Handicap Calculation: 50% of each player’s handicap index on the day of the event.
Stableford Scoring:
Double Bogey or Worse: 0 points
Bogey: 1 point
Par: 2 points
Birdie: 3 points
Eagle: 4 points
Albatross: 5 points
Individual Stroke Play: Each player will play their own ball, and scores will be adjusted based on handicaps to award Stableford points for each hole.
Qualification for Championship: The top 20% of players with the highest Stableford points from each qualifier will advance to the championship (Marine Park on Saturday, Sep. 21st).
Rules: Each event will be played under the USGA rules of golf.
